Converting waste fed insects into proteins using biorefinery
If feasible, a (partial) alternative to traditional imported protein sources would be available, while at the same time underspent organic side-streams could be valorised, and local European insect-farming industry could be boosted.
Funded by the European Union (H2020), the InDIRECT consortium will look into this challenge within a 3-year project.
Converting waste fed insects into proteins using biorefinery
What if the production of useful proteins, lipids and compraable resources from underspent organic side streams would be profitable at an industrial scale?
What if insects would play a useful role in this process?
